Glasgow Christmas Markets cancelled due to Covid restrictions

The festive event has had to be cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

Glasgow’s annual Christmas markets have officially been cancelled because of the second surge of coronavirus cases. The city council had announced changes to the festive schedule confirming that events at George Square were going ahead but simply not as ‘usual’ and looking ‘very different’.

Unfortunately one of the best Christmas events in Glasgow will not take place at George Square, according to an announcement made by Glasgow Christmas Market on their Facebook page.

It is confirmed Glasgow’s festive celebrations will not include the traditional Christmas market at George Square and St Enoch.

Here’s their statement: “It is with much sadness that we confirm that together with Glasgow City Council, we have mutually agreed that in light of the current lockdown restrictions and continuing Covid-19 restrictions the Glasgow Christmas Markets 2020 will not take place… The decision has been taken after much discussion and careful consideration of the ongoing restrictions required to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

Public safety has to be at the forefront of our decisions at this very difficult time”.

Glasgow City Council also had to cancel the annual Glasgow Green Fireworks display due to covid restrictions.
