People evacuated from their homes as Storm Christoph continues

People in Manchester were advised not to travel before noon and several routes have already experienced flooding issues.

Thousands of homes had to be evacuated overnight in Greater Manchester and North Wales, Maghull, Merseyside were also deeply affected by flooding, as Storm Christoph continues.

Homes evacuated as Storm continues

Storm Christoph continues hitting UK hard, causing widespread flooding across the country. About 2,000 homes in East Didsbury, West Didsbury and Northenden areas of Manchester were evacuated in the night because of the flooding. Heavy rain and snow continue falling across the UK and there are more than 200 flood warnings in place, five of which are set to ‘severe’.

People evacuating their homes were told they were allowed to leave their properties although coronavirus measures are in place.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said UK Government is ‘totally prepared’ to fight both the flooding and the pandemic and that facilities across the country would be able to welcome evacuated people. The Environment Agency warned several rivers are at ‘dangerously high levels’. Meanwhile, heavy rain has caused major incidents and flooding across England and Wales.

The Storm is also reportedly threatening to bring up to 30cm of snow to Northern England. The Environment Agency has issued ‘severe flood’ warnings which mean ‘risk to life’. Natural Resources Wales also issued a severe warning for the River Dee in Wrexham. More flooding is expected across the country and amber and yellow weather warnings continue to be in force. South East Scotland has also issued an amber warning for snow. People in Manchester were advised not to travel before noon and several routes have already experienced flooding issues.
