Justice Minister Naomi Long stated that there is no place for masked thugs in Northern Ireland and that hate cannot be allowed to win. Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly appealed for peaceful protests, emphasizing that violence does not advance any cause but damages it.

Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Gavin Robinson described the disorder as wrong and counter-productive, serving no purpose other than the destruction of neighborhoods. The Alleged Attacker and Immigration Status

The alleged attacker, initially believed to be Somali, was later confirmed to be a Sudanese national. The Home Office revealed that he had been granted leave to remain in the UK until 2028. He entered the UK in 2026 and was granted refugee status the same year. According to the PSNI, the suspect traveled from Sudan to Paris, then flew to Dublin, and subsequently traveled by bus to Belfast on 10 February 2026, the date on which he claimed asylum.

The suspect was not known to police and had no trace on any of the PSNI national security databases. Chief Constable Jon Boutcher emphasized the importance of not being fooled or duped by voices online inciting hatred and encouraging awful behavior. He urged people not to let those who know nothing about Northern Ireland stir up disorder via social media.
