In a heartbreaking turn of events, a delivery driver in Edinburgh has been left with zero income after his Yamaha NMAX 125 scooter was stolen and subsequently torched by a masked gang. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 July, 2026 has left the 30-year-old driver, Kosar Salih with no means to pay his bills and a destroyed livelihood.
The Nightmare Begins
The ordeal began when Mr. Salih’s scooter was stolen from Lansdowne Crescent near Haymarket around 2am. This was not the first attempt on his vehicle; just two months ago, a gang of e-bike riders tried to steal it but failed.
Mr. Salih believes the same gang returned, determined to succeed in their theft.
Unable to start the scooter due to the immobiliser, the thugs dragged it to the nearby Roseburn Path and set it ablaze. Mr. Salih, who had moved to Edinburgh from London last year, traced his bike using a tracker, only to find it completely burned out on the side of the cycle path.
A Livelihood Lost
Mr. Salih expressed his shock and despair, stating, “I was completely shocked. I thought I would just go there and be able to collect it. But when I arrived, it was completely burned, and there was nothing left of it.” The scooter was not just a mode of transport but his source of income.
“The bike is my livelihood. I can’t do anything now. It’s my source of income, and I’m worried about how I’m going to pay my bills. I rely on it to pay my rent, buy food, and survive,” he said. Mr. Salih had only become a delivery driver two months ago and was paying for the bike in instalments. Despite the bike being destroyed, he will still have to pay the remainder of the cost.
The Aftermath and the Search for Justice
Mr. Salih has reported the incident to Police Scotland and has also contacted Deliveroo and Just Eat the food delivery companies he works for. However, he has not yet received a response. He has also asked residents living around Lansdowne Crescent and the Roseburn Path to check their ring doorbell footage as well as any available CCTV and dashcam footage.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that they received a report of a motorcycle being stolen from Lansdowne Crescent in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 July, 2026, and later being discovered burned out nearby. Enquiries are at an early stage.
