The Team GB wins two sailing golds and loses the finals against Italy at Tokyo’s games

First gold of the day won by Giles Scott in the men’s Finn class and successively followed by the fellow sailors Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell. The latter obtained the first place in men’s 49er.

The pair went into the final in second place, four points behind New Zealand’s Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.

But victory was then conquered by Fletcher and Bithell; and New Zealand finished third. The race had been also postponed of 24 hours due to low wind. The wins at Japan’s Enoshima Yacht Harbour took Britain’s gold medal haul to 13.

Defeat against Italy

The Olympic debutants John Gimson and Anna Burnet scored second in the mixed Nacra 17 class, after Italy. Placing once again behind the Italians, Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti, is a bitter pill for Brits.

Nonetheless, the Team GB’s sailors claim to be enthusiastic with the silver medal as this result was totally unexpected.

Other winnings

Great Britain scored a silver medal also in the velodrome with cyclist Jason Kenny equalling Sir Bradley Wiggins’ record.

In addition, Harrogate’s Jack Laugher conquered his third Olympic medal of his diving career. Third place in the men’s 3m springboard final, adding a bronze to the medals board.
