Irish athletes made their mark on day five of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, with standout performances in various events.

The fifth day of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham saw Irish athletes deliver remarkable performances across multiple events. From the heptathlon to the 1500m, the Irish contingent showcased their talent and determination, setting the stage for an exciting final day of competition.
The day began with Kate O’Connor continuing her impressive run in the women’s heptathlon. After a stellar opening day, O’Connor maintained her third-place position with a series of strong performances in the long jump, javelin, and 800m.

Kate O’Connor has been a beacon of excellence in the women’s heptathlon. On day five, she continued to build on her impressive start, securing personal bests in the 100m hurdles and 200m.
Her performance in the high jump, where she matched her personal best of 1.86m, demonstrated her versatility and skill across different disciplines.

The evening session will see O’Connor conclude her heptathlon with the 800m at 7:45pm. Jack O’Leary will take on the men’s 10,000m final at 8:25pm, and Andrew Coscaran will compete in the men’s 1500m final at 9:07pm. If the relay teams qualify from their morning heats, they will contest the finals later in the evening.
