After a five-year stint with Heart of Midlothian, Cammy Devlin's departure is confirmed as he misses the contract deadline.

The Heart of Midlothian football club has officially announced the departure of midfielder Cammy Devlin after he failed to meet the deadline for a new contract. The 28-year-old, who joined the Premiership side from Wellington Phoenix in, made a significant impact during his five-year stay at Tynecastle Park.
Devlin’s impressive career with Hearts included 176 appearances, eight goals, and 12 assists. His standout season culminated in Hearts securing a second-place finish in the Premiership and a spot in the Champions League qualifiers. However, despite his contributions, the club confirmed that Devlin will not be returning as he did not commit to a new deal by the specified deadline.
Why did Cammy Devlin leave Hearts?
The club’s head coach, Wouter Vrancken had initiated talks with Devlin regarding his future at Hearts. Vrancken mentioned sending a message to Devlin, acknowledging the time difference and Devlin’s recent participation in the World Cup with Australia.
The coach expressed his anticipation of Devlin’s response but ultimately, the midfielder’s decision to miss the contract deadline sealed his departure.
A statement from Hearts read: “Heart of Midlothian can confirm that Cammy Devlin will not be returning to the club. Cammy was given a deadline by the club to commit to taking up the offer of a new deal, which he has failed to meet, and therefore leaves under freedom of contract. Cammy joined Hearts in and would go on to make 176 appearances in maroon, scoring eight goals. The club thanks Cammy for his time at Tynecastle Park.”
Devlin’s reflections on his future with Hearts
Prior to Australia’s World Cup campaign, Devlin shared his thoughts on his future with Hearts. He acknowledged the difficulty of making a decision while focusing on the World Cup. Devlin expressed his love for Hearts and the sense of belonging he felt at the club. However, he emphasized that his primary focus was on performing well for his country during the World Cup.
“It’s hard, because I know I’ve got a massive decision to make,” Devlin said. “Being in the pre-camp, first and foremost, I just wanted to put my head down, work as hard as I could to put my name in the coach’s mind. You don’t really want any distractions; you just want to focus on this and do as well as I can for my country. Hearts is such an amazing place. I feel so at home there, so it’s something that I actually don’t know at the moment. I’ve got a World Cup to focus on, so that’s my main priority.”
As Hearts prepare for their pre-season training and upcoming games with Sturm Graz in Europe, the departure of Cammy Devlin marks the end of an era. His contributions to the club will be remembered, and his future in football remains a topic of speculation among fans and analysts alike.
