Max Biaggi may have been wearing gold coloured gloves and boots and broke records yesterday, but today’s gold star in race 1 at Monza went to Eugene Laverty who threw a big wrench into the Roman Emperor’s plans to conquer the Italian circuit.
The Yamaha rookie won his first World Superbike race with an impressive performance, beating most of Biaggi’s all powerful drafting on the straights with some hefty braking passes.

The Aprilia Alitalia rider then ended up making several costly mistakes especially at the Prima and Seconda Variante that set him back and having to battle with Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri and lose precious meters to Laverty.
Biaggi would finish the race in second and 1.
5s adrift from the Yamaha rider.
Third went to Leon Haslam who brought the BMW on the podium after having several run ins with Marco Melandri who took fourth.
