WSBK Miller: Carlos Checa tops FP2

Carlos Checa decided it was time to put a halt to Jakub Smrz’s domination at Miller Motorsports Park as he topped the timesheets in the final free practice ahead of this afternoon’s Superpole.
The Althea Ducati rider led for the majority of the session, but he also suffered a crash a little more than halfway through the session at turn four and didn’t rejoin, but his previous 1.

283 was still good enough to keep the rest of the field at bay.

Jonathan Rea pushed up his Honda up to second and it looks like he has good race pace and he was followed by Marco Melandri, who suffered a technical problem on BMW1000RR before it started raining again.
Sylvain Guintoli was the best Liberty Racing rider taking the fourth spot, as team mate Jakub Smrz who led all three previous sessions crashed out at turn 15 and ended up in 7th with a Ducati that will need a makeover.

Althea’s Davide Giugliano was 5th with Leon Camier in 6th.
The Fixi Suzuki rider was able to jump to inside the top ten, but he didn’t qualify for the Superpole later today.

Title contender Tom Sykes was able to cut his gap from the front by two tenths and ended up eighth, while Aprilia Racing Team’s Max Biaggi and Eugene Laverty were 9th and 10th respectively, and more than a second adrift from Carlos Checa.
