2012 Kawasaki KX450F and KX250F

Summer is here and its time to check out the new and updated offroad and motocross bikes that are on the market.
The Kawasaki KX450F and KX250F models have been updated in minute detail and can be considered almost revolutionary for some aspects.

Until recently, the use of electronic gadgets had mostly remained out of the offroad scene which has always preferred a physical ride under the control of the rider.

But over recent years we have found technology like direct injection make its way into the offroad market, and now Kawasaki has introduced the first launch control system for motocross bikes.

The KX450F is now equipped with launch control which has been designed specifically to find the holeshot at the start of the race.
The 2012 Kawasaki KX450F has a button which activates a separate engine mapping system that guarantees a sharp start even with low grip conditions.
The clutch remains quite delicate but the launch control enables a rider to maximise traction and get a good start by delaying acceleration in first or second gear.

Once in third, the system deactivates automatically.
2012 Kawasaki KX450F and KX250F Kawasaki has also designed its offroad launch control with three different settings of standard, hard and soft according to the various conditions of the track on the day.
Other than this new technology, the KX450F is quite similar to the previous one.
Both chassis and mechanical components are relatively unchanged, apart from the front wheel which goes from 90/100-21 to 80/100-21 to increase its agility.
A smaller fuel tank has also been used, down from seven litres to 6.

The 2012 Kawasaki KX250F gets new double injectors instead.
This is also the first time such technology has been used on a motocross bike and the KX250F benefits from more power because of it.
The higher power shows at high revs and torque is better distributed – with a feeling almost like the old motors with a carburettor.
An injection kit is available to adjust ECU settings and more new components appear on the KX250F, with a new cylinder, pistons and piston rods.
An SFF (Separated Function Front) fork is used which allows for a big piston system to be used on an offroad bike.
With an updated rear suspension, it increase the bike’s traction.
