MotoGP Phillip Island: Casey Stoner is the king of the Island

Casey Stoner has been devasting all weekend and his supremacy was what we expected during today’s Australian GP at Phillip Island.

5s lead on the rest of the field, continuing to hammer out fast laps in his solitary ride to take his fourth consecutive victory at the Australian track and his third win of the season.

Jorge Lorenzo tried his best to catch Stoner, but just couldn’t match the Aussie’s race pace and settled for a second place and more than 8.

Valentino Rossi had to remount from his eighth spot on the grid (9th on the first lap) to battle it out with Nicky Hayden for third, with a last lap thriller between the two that saw Rossi with a block pass prevail on his future team mate.
Another interesting battle was for fifth with Marco Simoncelli and Ben Spies going at it until Simoncelli started to fade with tire wear.
Spies with his two podiums so far and his fifth place today is now the 2010 Rookie of the YearThe Gresini rider was the best Honda rider on the grid that saw only 14 riders pass under the chequered flag, with factory rider Dani Pedrosa deciding to withdraw from the event after yesterday’s qualifying session due to his shoulder injury and Andrea Dovizioso who after three laps had to retire due to a technical problem on his RC212V.

Seventh went to Colin Edwards, followed by Aleix Espargaro and Marco Melandri and Randy de Puniet closing out the top ten.
