2013 Sachsenring: Dani Pedrosa to make decision to race on Sunday morning

Dani Pedrosa was the second top rider to crash out at Sachsenring and suffer a collarbone fracture.
Pedrosa’s crash occurred during the third free practice, and despite being off the throttle, the rear of Honda suddenly baulked at turn 1 and launching him high into the air and when hit the asphalt he did it on his left shoulder, before tumbling head first into the gravel pit.

The Repsol Honda rider after two X-rays at the Sachsenring medical center and the Clinica Mobile, was flown to the Chemnitz hospital for a CAT scan and MRI after accusing vasovagal symptoms, that were due to him hitting his head and chest.

The scans fortunately ruled out internal injuries, but confirmed a small fracture and a very light concussion.
Doctors Angel Charte and Enric Caceres confirmed the small break, and said that Pedrosa will not require surgery and he will take four weeks to heal.
He will have to undergo a medical examination tomorrow morning to rule out any neurological issues as less than 24 hours will have gone by after he suffered the vasovagal symptoms and before being allowed to race, if he should decide to do so.

“It was definitely a scary moment and I’m still not totally sure what happened,” said Pedrosa.
“I hit my head hard and immediately felt a lot of pain in my shoulder and I checked to see if I could feel anything.
Thankfully in the medical centre they saw it wasn’t broken but maybe a small fracture, and I was also feeling very dizzy but never lost consciousness.
Just to be safe, we flew to Chemnitz Hospital for a CAT scan and then returned to Clinica Mobile at the circuit.
They confirmed I had a small fracture in my left collarbone but I am thankful it wasn’t a complete break.
Now I will rest tonight and see how I feel in the morning.
If I feel strong enough I will have the medical check to clear me for the race.
