With a drenching rain that hit the Istanbul Park circuit during the night leaving a very damp track circuit, the second World Superbike qualifying session was a total washout.
In the tricky conditions very few riders ventured out of their garages except for an occasional out lap to test the conditions, the Q2 timesheet would remain the same as yesterday’s, with Sylvain Guintoli leading the a decimated field over Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty.
Three riders have been ruled out of the proceedings: Leon Camier (fractured foot), Carlos Checa (fractured scaphoid and chest contusion), Max Neukirchner (fractured metacarpals of his right hand) all crashed yesterday, Friday the 13th.
Ayrton Badovini who also crashed yesterday sustaining some ligament damage to his foot, was passed fit to race, but he’ll be the only rider not to take part in the Superpole as he didn’t post a qualifying time, while local wild cards Tolga Urpak and Yunus Ercelik will take part in Superpole, and so will Vittorio Iannuzzo and Federico Sandi, for the first time this season.
