Tom Sykes dominates QP2 at Aragon

It was a beautiful sunny morning at Aragon for World Superbikes second qualifying session.
Topping the timesheets for the first time this weekend was Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes who stopped the clock in 1.
57.
758 and was the only rider to break the 1.

58 barrier in the 45 minute session.
Eugene Laverty continues to show off the powerful Aprilia RSV4 by taking the second spot followed by a resurgent Jonathan Rea with his Pata Honda especially following last week’s private tests at Aragon and Alcarras trying to dial in the electronics.

Chaz Davies continues to grow with his BMW S1000RR and took the fourth spot ahead of the suprise of the session, who was Althea’s Davide Giugliano who finished ahead of Aprilia factory rider Sylvain Guintoli with his satellite Aprilia.
The Frenchman was the last rider to be within a second of Sykes, as BMW’s Marco Melandri was more that 1.
1 seconds adrift and concentrating more on race pace rather than on hot laps.
Kawasaki’s Loris Baz was eighth.
Fixi Crescent Suzuki’s Leon Camier was indicated in 9th and based on his yesterday’s brief QP1 times, but unfortunately the British rider will probably be forced to miss the Spanish round after dislocating and cutting his knee in a highside during QP1.

Jules Cluzel will try to hold up the team’s colors as he took the tenth position.
Michel Fabrizio and Leon Haslam both crashed in the session, luckily the two did not sustain injuries, and both made it into this afternoon’s Superpole, even if Haslam couldn’t complete the practice.
The three Ducati Panigale riders, Carlos Checa, Ayrton Badovini (for Alstare Ducati and Max Neukirchner (MR Racing) all qualified for Superpole, but they were between 1.
8 and 2.
5 seconds adrift with the 1199 Panigale, suffering a top speed deficit the long Aragon straight.
Out of this afternoon’s Superpole will be: Alexander Lundh, Federico Sandi, Ivan Clementi, Mark Aitchison and Vittorio Iannuzzo.
