New beginnings at Aberdeen

Oday Dabbagh, the newly signed striker for Aberdeen FC, has expressed his enthusiasm for the electrifying atmosphere at Pittodrie Stadium following the team’s impressive 3-0 victory over Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup. Although Dabbagh was not part of the matchday squad, he arrived in Scotland just in time to soak in the excitement of the cup tie, which set the stage for a home quarter-final against Queen’s Park next month.

A warm welcome from the fans

In an interview with RedTV, Dabbagh described the atmosphere as “crazy,” stating, “I love it. I love it a lot.” His excitement was palpable as he recounted the warm welcome he received from fans and teammates alike.

Having arrived a day earlier, he took the opportunity to meet the squad and staff, immersing himself in the team environment before the game. “I went to the dressing room to feel the atmosphere, to see everything. And really it was nice,” he added, highlighting the camaraderie and spirit within the club.

Rapid transfer to Aberdeen

Dabbagh’s journey to Aberdeen was swift and unexpected. Initially, interest from the club began in January, but it wasn’t until the final hours of the transfer window that the deal materialized. “It happened so fast. I really was not expecting – it was an unexpected transfer,” he explained. After receiving a call from Charleroi, his previous club, informing him of Aberdeen’s interest, the transfer was finalized within hours. Dabbagh noted the positive feedback he received about the club, stating, “A lot of people told me: ‘Aberdeen, Scotland, good people, like a good team, you will enjoy.’”

Goals and aspirations

As a Palestinian international, Dabbagh is eager to make his mark in Scottish football. He has a proven track record of scoring goals throughout his career, having been the top scorer in Kuwait and achieving success in Portugal and Belgium. “This is a competitive team. And also it’s a challenge for me, for everyone – to give everything, to be good in the training,” he remarked, emphasizing his commitment to contributing to the team’s success. Dabbagh believes that self-confidence is crucial for a forward, stating, “If he has his confidence, he can score from nothing.”

Representing Palestine on a European stage

Notably, Dabbagh is the first Palestinian-born player to participate in European football, a milestone he takes great pride in. He expressed his desire to represent his country well and inspire other Palestinians to pursue opportunities abroad. “It’s really something I’m proud of and it’s a big responsibility to represent my country good and also open the door for other Palestinians to go outside,” he said, reflecting on the significance of his achievement.
