Authorities urge public to assist in ongoing investigation into car fire incident.

In the early hours of Friday morning, a significant incident unfolded in Peterhead as a car was reported to be deliberately set on fire. The event occurred around AM, prompting immediate action from local law enforcement and fire services. The vehicle, a Brown Land Rover Discovery, was located in flames near the Old Buchan railway line, adjacent to the A90 Peterhead bypass, just north of the Howe O’ Buchan roundabout.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and it has been confirmed that no one was inside the vehicle at the time of the fire. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly to the scene, extinguishing the flames swiftly to prevent further damage or risk to nearby properties.
The police have since classified the fire as a wilful act, indicating that they believe it was intentionally set.
Police appeal for information
Constable Morgan Irvine from the Peterhead police station has stated that investigations are ongoing. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in resolving this case, urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to come forward. “I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed anything that could assist our enquiry, or anyone with information that could assist our investigation to please contact us,” Irvine said.
Dash-cam footage request
In particular, police are seeking dash-cam footage from drivers who were on the A90 Peterhead bypass between the Howe O’ Buchan roundabout and North Road late on Thursday evening up until the time of the incident. Such footage could provide crucial evidence that may aid in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for this act of arson. “They may have captured something relevant to this investigation,” Irvine added.
