Aberdeen forward Alfie Bavidge has recently opened up about his experiences during his loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle (ICT), highlighting how the legendary Billy Mckay has significantly influenced his development as a striker. Bavidge, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury that ended his season prematurely, played a crucial role in ICT’s fight for survival in League One, scoring six goals in just ten appearances.

Learning from a club legend

In a recent episode of the Wyness Shuffle podcast titled the Survivor Series, Bavidge expressed his admiration for Mckay, who is not only the club’s record scorer but also serves as the assistant manager.

Bavidge noted, “Billy was one of the many things that made me want to come to Inverness. I see Billy as someone I have a similar play style to. Learning from him and watching him every day has really helped my game.” His ability to absorb knowledge from Mckay, who has played at the highest levels of football, has been invaluable to Bavidge’s growth.

Supportive environment fosters growth

Transitioning to a new club can be challenging, but Bavidge praised the supportive atmosphere at ICT. He credited former chairman Alan Savage and manager Kellacher for making him feel welcome and helping him regain his confidence after a difficult stint at Ayr United. “Your environment is massive,” Bavidge remarked, emphasizing how the positive treatment he received off the pitch allowed him to focus on performing well during matches. This nurturing environment has been instrumental in his development as a player.

Impactful performances and future aspirations

During his time at ICT, Bavidge’s contributions were vital, particularly in securing crucial points for the team. He reflected on the significance of his goals, stating, “Scoring is one of my favorite things in the world. To do it in such big occasions was a brilliant feeling.” His efforts helped the team avoid relegation, and he expressed a strong desire to continue contributing to the club’s success. As he works on his recovery, Bavidge is focused on returning to full fitness and having a productive pre-season with Aberdeen, where he hopes to build on his experiences at ICT.

Looking ahead

With one year remaining on his contract at Pittodrie, Bavidge is eager to prove himself and potentially return to Inverness on loan next season. The support from the Inverness fans has been overwhelming, and he is motivated to repay their faith in him. “I want to get fit and then back to playing football,” he stated, highlighting his commitment to returning stronger than ever. As he continues his rehabilitation, the young forward remains optimistic about his future in football.
