Milan: Castello Sforzesco welcomes Matthew Spender art

If you’re looking for an exhibition to go to while in Milan, you can pop across to the Castello Sforzesco, already in itself an impressive monument to see.
Running until June 8 there is an exhibition dedicated to English artist and sculptor Matthew Spender, taking place in the courtyard and rooms of the castle.

In the gallery below you can have a taste of the 90 pieces.
Called “Modern Archaeology” the exhibition includes various materials such as marble, terracotta and wood used for these solemn sculptures inspired by Etruscan art and art from modern masters such as Arturo Martini.

Spender is Italian by adoption and has lived for 40 years in Tuscany with his wife, American painter Maro Gorky.
He’s developed a personal and poetic style, well loved by his collectors including Bernardo Bertolucci and Francis Bacon.
His pieces are very humanistic, welcoming and maternal – it can be an emotional experience.
Go to the Castello Sforzesco site for information on opening times.
Entrance to the Spender exhibition is free.
