The isolation for travellers arriving in the UK from Spain could soon be shortened to 10 days.

The Government will soon be announcing a new policy: the isolation for travellers arriving in the UK from Spain could soon be shortened to 10 days.

Quarantine will be cut for people arriving from Spain

Following the revival of a new coronavirus outbreak in Spain, the Government had imposed two weeks isolation for travellers returning from Spain.

But now this is changing. The isolation period could be shortened to only 10 days.

This is the announcement that will probably be coming from the Government in the next weeks. People travelling from Spain and other countries with high levels of coronavirus would be able to isolate for only 10 days instead of the originally set period of 15 days. The Government is creating a new policy of testing travellers exactly 8 days after they land: if the result is negative to Covid-19 they will be able to end their isolation 2 days later.

The Foreign Office is now advising the public against all non-essential travel to Spain and other high-risk countries. A spokesperson confirmed: “We have considered the overall situation for British nationals travelling to and from the Balearic and Canary Islands, including the impact of the requirement to self-isolate on return to the UK, and concluded that we should advise British nationals against all non-essential travel to the whole of Spain.”

Until further notice, the situation remains the same, meaning the isolation period is still a fortnight. Tory minister Simon Clarke highlighted the importance of knowing the current policy until further announcements. He told Sky News: “The situation remains that the government’s advice is that you must quarantine for 14 days”.
