Althea Racing threatens to leave World Superbikes

Althea Racing’s boss Genesio Bevilacqua was clearly upset after the last round of the Superbike championship at Moscow and is now threatening to pull out of the series if the weight rules regarding the 1200cc twin cylinders aren’t modified in 2013.

it Bevilacqua is again protesting that the rules are harshly penalizing to Ducati, and is convinced that Carlos Checa is riding on the very limit in order just to keep up with the lighter four cylinder motorcycles citing the example that Checa was 30km slower on the Moscow straight, but he managed to catch up with the others in the turns.

The Italian manager is already worrying what will happen when the 1199 Panigale will replace the outdated 1098R, and have to race under what he calls ‘absurd’ and ‘unfair’ rules and wants that the regulations be decided by a technical committee made up of engineers and technicians and not by the manufacturers and teams, and if next season the situation doesn’t change his team may not be on the World Superbike starting grid as he would lack the motivation to invest in a series where his riders don’t have a least a fighting chance to win.
