Eugene Laverty sets new pace in FP2 at Silverstone

A little rain that started at end of the Superstock 600 qualifying session seemed like it would hamper World Superbikes second free practice, but it did not cause any problems as everyone headed out on slicks as the clouds opened up letting the sun peek through.

Eugene Laverty topped the timesheets with a best lap of 2.

04.
895 and breaking not only into the 2.
04s, but also Tom Sykes benchmark that had been set on Friday afternoon and leaving the Kawasaki rider half a second adrift.

Sykes still hasn’t been able to improve on his own personal best, as the rest of the field began closing in on him, with Leon Camier, Sylvain Guintoli, respectively third and fourth and the three were covered by a mere 0.
050s.
Loris Baz was fifth on the second Kawasaki and a little more than a tenth for his team mate.
It was a troubled session for the BMW Goldbet team.
Chaz Davies had to sit out almost all the session after suffering a technical issue which meant that the team had to change the engine on his S1000RR, while team mate Marco Melandri crashed out at the ‘Arena,’ with 12 minutes left in the practice, that forced him to seek the attention of the medical center.

The crash left him in sixth.
The Italian hurt his hand, elbow and strained his neck – but his partecipation in Superpole is not in doubt.
Seventh quickest was Davide Giugliano followed, by Jonathan Rea who was a little more than a second from Laverty’s best lap, while Carlos Checa and Jules Cluzel closed out the top ten.
