Earn a sport health science degree inside Doncaster’s stadium

Train alongside Doncaster’s elite clubs while earning a sport health science degree on campus.

Earn a sport health science degree inside Doncaster’s stadium

Imagine attending lectures inside a professional football ground, watching the crowds roar while you learn the biomechanics of a sprint. The University Campus Doncaster makes that vision a reality. Located within the Eco-Power Stadium – home to Doncaster Rovers, the Rugby League side, and the women’s football club Doncaster Belles – the Sport Health and Exercise Science programme blends academic rigour with a genuine sporting atmosphere.

Students spend two full days each week in structured classes, freeing the remaining weekdays for practical work in the newly opened High Performance Centre. This purpose-built facility houses state-of-the-art equipment for sports massage, therapy, and fitness testing, allowing learners to translate theory into action under the guidance of seasoned practitioners.

Hands-on learning with elite partners

The curriculum is stitched together with placements that place students directly on the sidelines of Doncaster’s top clubs. Whether you are massaging a Rovers striker after a match, assisting the Knights’ strength coach, or analysing performance data for the Belles, each internship provides a real-world context for the concepts covered in class.

These collaborations were forged with local stakeholders to ensure graduates acquire the exact skills demanded by the regional sports market.

Core modules and professional credentials

Study spans Levels 4 to 6 and comprises 17 compulsory modules. Early years focus on Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics, and Foundations of Exercise Physiology. Mid-programme modules such as Soft Tissue Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, and Nutrition for Sport and Health deepen practical expertise. In the final year, students tackle Aetiology and Treatment, Applied Psychology, and a major independent research project.

All enrolments include a discounted Level 4 Sports Massage qualification – a credential typically priced above £2,500 but offered for a fraction of the cost. Additionally, every student receives a complimentary gym membership through the partnership with Doncaster Cultural Leisure Trust.

Entry routes, fees and career prospects

Prospective learners need 48 UCAS points, achievable via A-levels, BTEC Nationals, or an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits. The university also recognises prior learning and offers pathways for mature applicants who demonstrate continuous academic or professional development.

Annual tuition for UK students stands at £8,190, payable through a tuition-fee loan and optional maintenance loan. Extra expenses may include a modest £400 fee for the Level 4 massage course, sports kit, and optional DBS checks for placements.

Graduates emerge ready for a spectrum of roles: sports therapist, strength and conditioning coach, exercise physiologist, or fitness instructor. Median salaries range from £15,490 for fitness instructors to £38,300 for physiotherapists, with further advancement possible through postgraduate study or specialist certifications.

By embedding education within a live stadium environment, the programme ensures that every graduate leaves with a portfolio of hands-on experience, professional contacts, and a clear pathway into the flourishing sport, health and fitness sector.
