The 2012 Jerez GP was saved at the last minute thanks to the town’s mayor José Maria Garcia Pelayo, but the Jerez circuit director and president of the RFME, Juan Alvarez has some doubts whether they’ll be able to host the event after 2012.
Speaking on Canal Sur Radio during the program “El Circuito,” Alvarez explained the problems that arose during the negotiations for the 2012 GP between Cirjesa, who owns and manages the circuit until December 31st and confirmed by Dorna’s Carmelo Ezpeleta, but Alvarez said he’s not sure if the contract has been signed, but assures that whatever Ezpeleta says “that is law“.

However regarding the fact whether the GP will be held in 2013 (despite previous statements that it will be on the calendar until 2016) Alvarez has doubts: “Unfortunately I am beginning to imagine a MotoGP championship without Jerez on the calendar.
I spend a lot of time trying to organize a great race, but if Jerez doesn’t not have the conditions to host it the organizer has every right to go elsewhere, where they are treated better and have no trouble collecting so unfortunately we may have to start thinking about a calendar without Jerez on it, which would be sad for the fans and for the area, and if the GP is dropped many other things may collapse.

“Alvarez concluded by saying: “I am optimistic by nature, but the facts are making me think that the situation is getting bad,” and is thinking that possible sale could be a solution, adding, “The Jerez circuit isn’t worth anything without a Grand Prix.
