If Casey Stoner literally dominates in MotoGP, so is Stefan Bradl in Moto2.
The German took his fourth win of the season in a very wet Silverstone and in the commanding fashion that we’ve now grown accustomed to and futher lengthened his lead in the championship standings to 62 points over Simone Corsi who is trailing in second.
Bradl got the holeshot over Scott Redding, Marc Marquez whose team put together his Suter in record time after his massive warm-up crash, Kenan Sofuoglu and Randy Krummenacher, but the popular English rider caught Bradl at the end of the first lap and managed to maintain the lead for the next four unable to shake the German from his tail, but then Bradl pounced and regained the head of the race.
However Bradl’s lead didn’t last long, because cutting a swathe through the field from his 22nd spot came hard charging Mattia Pasini who grabbed the lead, which unfortunately only lasted two laps because the Ioda Racing rider crashed out on lap 8.
While Bradl continued his superb domination in the treacherous conditions, another rider was cutting through the field at an amazing pace and that was Bradley Smith.
The English rider started 28th on the grid after yesterday’s problems and a € 1000 fine from the Race Direction for riding in the pitlane the wrong way, was already 12th at the end of the first lap and 6th by lap four and grabbed the third spot on lap seven from Redding and when Ken Sufouglu crashed out of second place, Smith inherited his spot and rode to his first podium finish this season.
Sufuoglu’s crash also pushed Gresini rider Michele Pirro into third and his first podium in Moto2.
Jules Cluzel took fourth and Scott Redding fifth, Esteve Rabat and Yuki Takahashi were sixth and seventh respectively, while Sufuoglu managed to rejoin the race and finish in eighth.
Ninth went to Yonny Hernandez who crashed on the sighting lap but was able to race and tenth was Simone Corsi.
