Sito Pons’s El Tenerife 40 Pons Moto2 team were in Germany last week to undergo wind tunnel testing on their Kalex bike at Volkswagen’s technical development center.
Pons who is 180 cm tall and similar in build to his team mate Aleix Espargaro, tried out different aerodynamic positions at 180 km/h, and the findings will now be developed by Kalex in time to be tested for the February Moto2 tests.

“I want to thank Kalex for giving me the opportunity to let me test in the wind tunnel for them.
It was a great experience,” said Pons.
“I think the data we gathered will help us to make the bike next year even better than this year’s, so we can fight for the top spots.
I’ve been training to get ready for February and to test on track all the development work they’ve been doing in Germany.

“ Alex Baumgaertel – Kalex Engineer:“It was a very positive experience working with Axel Pons and Stefan Bradl (Viesmann Kiefer Racing) in the wind tunnel.
It takes a lot of professionalism on the part of the rider to be on the bike in a racing position for hours supporting a wind speed of 180 km/h.

I want to thank them for their work in developing the Pons Kalex even outside the circuit.
It was great going with Axel into the wind tunnel to complete the first season in Moto2 with Sito Pons and his team.
We have to thank them for their hospitality, professionalism and the relationship we had with all the team and Pons because he believed in Kalex from the beginning.
Now we want to improve for 2011 in every thing, and work hard and achieve our goal together: win races.
“Sito PonsTeam Manager:“This was the season which saw the beginning of Moto2, I think we can be satisfied because our bike has always been at a very good level.
This was thanks to the enthusiasm and effort of each member of this team, as well as the work of evolution, research and development with Kalex Engineering who planned meticulously.
Continuing with the established program, we had an intense day of testing at the Volkswagen wind tunnel, which I believe will give significant improvements to our bike, with the aim that all our riders will have the potential to compete at the highest level.
