Valentino Rossi suffered a big highside in this morning’s second free practice at the Mugello with just 10 minutes left in the session.
The Italian rider has been diagnosed with a displaced and exposed fracture of his tibia and a fractured fibula.
According to Dr.
Macchia Godena who was interviewed by Sportmediaset, Rossi’s fracture was immediately reduced in the Clinica Mobile by placing him under anaesthisia and the injury is very serious, but fortunately does not involve neither his circulatory nor his nervous system, but there is a high risk of infection.

Rossi has now be flown out by helicopter to the CTO Hospital in Florence to have his leg stabilized and Dr.
Roberto Buzzi will perform surgery this afternoon.
With a recovery period estimated to be between 2 to 3 months and six races in the next eight weeks, this injury is a monumental blow to Rossi’s hopes of winning a tenth world title in 2010.
This will be the first time that Valentino Rossi will miss a race since his 1996 debut in Grand Prix racing.
