Nine T-shirts that are part of Dolce & Gabbana’s Icon T-shirt collection that depict Peter Fonda in his iconic role as Wyatt, in the 1969 cult motorcycle movie Easy Rider are now a matter of a lawsuit in California.
The 73-year old American actor, who co-wrote, produced and starred in the cult movie (the late Dennis Hopper directed) has decided to sue the internationally famous Italian fashion label for using his image and the logo of Easy Rider without his permission.
Fonda is also suing retailer Nordstrom, who distributes and sells the $295 t-shirts.
According to the bible of fashion industry WWD, Fonda claims that he has “suffered injuries to his peace, happiness, feelings, goodwill, reputation, image, loss of fair market values of his services and dilution of his current and future publicity value”, The actor is seeking $6 million in compensation, as well as legal fees and all profits made from the sales of the T-shirts Fonda isn’t the only one who has filed suit against companies who use personal images without consent, the estate of Marlon Brando filed against Harley-Davidson – they later settled – over a collection of motorcycle boots dubbed “Brando” which looked similar to the pair that Brando wore in the 1953 classic The Wild One.
