Loganair, the Scottish airline, is set to enhance its operations by introducing new flight routes from both Aberdeen and Inverness. This strategic move comes on the heels of the airline’s impressive pre-tax profits of £6.9 million for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.
Chief Executive Luke Farajallah attributes this success to the significant roles played by both cities in the airline’s network.
Strong performance amidst challenges
In a year described as “full of internal distractions,” Loganair successfully transported 1,519,667 passengers.
Mr. Farajallah expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance, stating that despite the challenges faced, the team managed to navigate through effectively. He emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and reducing cancellations in the current year to boost profitability further.
Focus on new commercial routes
Looking ahead, Loganair is keen on expanding its commercial routes in the north-east of Scotland. Mr. Farajallah highlighted the significance of Aberdeen and Inverness in their network, noting that Aberdeen hosts the highest number of the airline’s aircraft. The airline currently offers a mix of leisure, business, and mail flights, and the potential for new routes is promising.
Market dynamics and passenger growth
Mr. Farajallah pointed out that the resurgence of the oil and gas sector has positively influenced passenger numbers in the north-east. He stated, “The Aberdeen market is influenced by oil and gas to some degree, and we’ve managed to capitalize on that.” This growth reflects Loganair’s commitment to serving a vital part of Scotland’s economy, ensuring that they remain a key player in the region.
Employee engagement and financial health
During the last financial year, Loganair employed an average of 899 people, demonstrating its role as a significant employer in the region. The airline reported a turnover of £264 million, an increase from the previous year’s £248 million, showcasing its financial resilience and growth trajectory.
