Stonehaven's Nippy Dip event brings excitement to the New Year!

In a vibrant display of community spirit, hundreds of residents from Stonehaven took the plunge into the icy waters of the harbour to celebrate the arrival of 2025. The annual Nippy Dip, held earlier today, saw participants donning colorful and festive outfits, showcasing their bravery against the backdrop of winter’s chill.

Braving the cold for a good cause

With temperatures hovering between –1°C and 3°C, the event was not for the faint-hearted. Yet, the locals showed no hesitation as they dove into the frigid waters around noon, embodying the true essence of resilience and camaraderie.

The Nippy Dip has become a beloved tradition in Stonehaven, marking the New Year with a splash and a sense of community.

Weather warnings and community support

As participants took their daring dips, two yellow weather warnings for snow and ice were issued for the north and north-east regions, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event. Despite the adverse weather conditions, the spirit of the Nippy Dip remained undeterred. The funds raised from this exhilarating event are crucial, as they help cover the costs of first aid services provided during the gathering, ensuring the safety of all participants.

Supporting local charities

Beyond the thrill of the plunge, the Nippy Dip serves a greater purpose. The remaining funds collected from the fearless swimmers are allocated to various local charities. This year, beneficiaries included the Stonehaven 24 Hour Public Access Defibrillators Network Fund, the Stonehaven Christmas Tree Fund, the Stonehaven Resilience Project Fund, and the Community Awards. Such initiatives highlight the community’s commitment to supporting one another and enhancing local resources.

Capturing the moment

The images reflect not only the bravery of the participants but also the joy and laughter shared among friends and families.
