Empowering workplace wellbeing: The journey of Louise Lang
In today’s fast-paced work environment, the importance of mental health and employee wellbeing cannot be overstated. Louise Lang, a seasoned businesswoman from Aberdeenshire, has dedicated her career to advocating for these crucial aspects in the workplace.

With over 30 years of experience in human resources, Louise has transformed her personal struggles into a thriving consultancy that focuses on enhancing workplace culture and mental health.

From humble beginnings to HR expertise

Louise’s journey began in her teenage years, where she exhibited a natural talent for connecting with people.

After leaving school, she took on various roles, including a receptionist administrator and customer service advisor, which ignited her passion for recruitment and human resources. Her ambition led her to work for renowned companies such as BP, Shell, and Talisman, where she honed her skills in employee relations and HR operations.

However, Louise’s path was not without its challenges. Throughout her career, she faced significant mental health struggles, particularly stemming from her experiences with fertility issues. These personal battles have shaped her understanding of the importance of mental health in the workplace, driving her to create a supportive environment for employees.

Establishing Lang & Co: A focus on wellbeing

In December 2022, Louise rebranded her consultancy to Lang & Co, emphasizing her commitment to workplace wellbeing. The consultancy offers a range of services, including training, engagement strategies, and internal communication support. Louise’s approach is rooted in her belief that mental health should be a priority for every organization.

“I think that was a really good idea for me. It gave me a fresh start and more ownership on my own,” Louise reflects. Her consultancy has already made a significant impact, training over 1,000 leaders in mental health awareness at companies like Saputo Dairy and collaborating with local businesses in Aberdeen.

Advocating for mental health in the workplace

Louise’s personal experiences have fueled her passion for advocating mental health awareness in corporate settings. She recognizes that many employers view mental health as a daunting topic, often shying away from addressing it. By reframing the conversation around wellbeing, she aims to create a more approachable dialogue that encourages organizations to prioritize their employees’ mental health.

“I’d like to get a focus on fertility in the workplace because I think it takes a bigger toll than people expect,” she shares. Louise’s vision is to foster an environment where employees feel supported and understood, regardless of their personal challenges.

Looking ahead: A sustainable future for Lang & Co

As Louise continues to grow her consultancy, she remains adaptable and open to new opportunities. Her journey has taught her the value of resilience and the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. “I love my work and I love what I do. Even if I was a millionaire, I think I’d still do it,” she states, highlighting her unwavering commitment to improving workplace wellbeing.

With her wealth of experience and personal insights, Louise Lang is not just a businesswoman; she is a beacon of hope for many navigating the complexities of mental health in the workplace. Her story serves as a reminder that through adversity, one can find purpose and make a meaningful impact on others’ lives.
