This summer, the Port of Aberdeen will undergo a remarkable transformation as the Peterson Seabase is set to become a vibrant music venue with a capacity of 7,000. From July 18 to 22, this dockside freight yard will swap its usual cargo operations for a lively atmosphere filled with music, food, and entertainment, coinciding with the much-anticipated return of the Tall Ships Races to the city.

A major outdoor music venue

The Peterson Seabase, located at Waterloo Quay, will emerge as one of Scotland’s largest outdoor music venues. The site will feature a festival stage, various food outlets, and bars, creating an inviting space for both locals and visitors.

Over three nights, ticketed events will showcase several major headline acts, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees. Chris Coull, joint UK managing director of Peterson Energy Logistics, expressed pride in making this space available for the city, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Aberdeen’s maritime heritage and vibrant culture.

Celebrating maritime heritage with entertainment

In addition to the headline performances, the festival will include a series of free events throughout the Tall Ships celebration, aimed at attracting a diverse audience from near and far. Local artists, ship bands, and traditional sea shanty groups will perform, ensuring that the maritime theme resonates throughout the event. Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, highlighted the significance of this transformation, stating that the festival will not only entertain thousands but also enhance the city’s economy and reputation.

A lasting legacy for Aberdeen

The Tall Ships festival is expected to create a lasting legacy for Aberdeen, with the Peterson Seabase serving as a focal point for entertainment and community engagement. Alongside the music events, the quayside will host 60 market stalls as part of the Curated at the Quad initiative, providing local businesses and groups with an opportunity to participate in the festivities. This initiative will further enrich the experience for festival-goers, showcasing the best of what Aberdeen has to offer.

As the city prepares for this world-class event, excitement is building among residents and visitors alike. The Tall Ships festival promises to be a celebration of maritime culture, music, and community spirit, making it a highlight of Aberdeen’s summer calendar.
