Petals of Oban: A family florist’s journey to becoming Scotland’s best wedding supplier
In a remarkable achievement, Petals of Oban, a family-run florist, has been honored with the People’s Choice Award for the best wedding supplier in Scotland.

The prestigious awards ceremony took place in Glasgow, where the florist was nominated for three awards, showcasing its dedication and commitment to quality service.

A legacy of floral excellence

Founded in 1992 by Lynette MacArthur’s mother, Agnes, Petals of Oban has deep roots in the community.

Agnes, who sadly passed away, was known for her close friendship with Frances Shand Kydd, the mother of Diana, Princess of Wales. Diana frequently ordered flowers from Petals for her mother, highlighting the florist’s long-standing reputation for quality and service. Lynette recalls, “My mum made lots of good friends, including Mrs. Shand Kydd.” This legacy continues as Lynette and her daughter, Alex McLeod, carry on the family tradition of providing exceptional floral arrangements.

Commitment to customer satisfaction

Petals of Oban stands out not only for its beautiful floral designs but also for its commitment to customer satisfaction. The team works closely with clients to ensure that every detail is perfect, especially for weddings. Lynette explains, “When it comes to weddings, we want to do our best for our customers.” They cater to various preferences, from brides who have a clear vision to those who need guidance in selecting the right arrangements. This personalized approach has earned them a loyal customer base and numerous inquiries each week.

Delivering joy across the islands

Petals of Oban’s reach extends beyond the town, delivering flowers to the surrounding areas and even to the islands served by CalMac ferries. Alex shares, “We cover all the islands, and we regularly have flowers going to Barra, Coll, and Tiree.” The florist receives fresh shipments of flowers multiple times a week, sourcing directly from Holland and local markets in Glasgow and Inverness. Their most popular selections include “anything Scottish,” but they also create stunning arrangements for various occasions, from weddings to funerals.

Embracing every occasion

While weddings are a significant part of their business, Petals of Oban also embraces other celebrations throughout the year. Lynette enjoys creating floral tributes for funerals, stating, “It is so nice to be able to make a floral wreath or tribute that allows people to show how much someone meant to them.” This sentiment reflects the florist’s understanding of the emotional power of flowers, often conveying feelings that words cannot express.

Looking ahead

With a steady stream of orders, including 500 bouquets on Mother’s Day and 120 on Valentine’s Day, Petals of Oban continues to thrive. The family business not only delivers flowers but also provides a personal touch by taking orders through their website and in person at their location in Glenshellach Business Park. As they look to the future, Lynette and Alex remain dedicated to their craft, ensuring that Petals of Oban will continue to be a beloved part of the community.
