In a significant move reflecting the rising demand for legal services in the Highlands, Thorntons law firm has expanded its Inverness office, increasing its workforce from 13 to 21 employees. This growth, amounting to over 60%, comes after a successful first year since the office opened in April last year at Beechwood Business Park.

Commitment to the Highlands

Paul Adams, head of the Inverness office, emphasized the firm’s commitment to the region, stating that the expansion is a direct response to the increasing investment in the local economy. He noted that there was a “notable gap” in the Highlands and Islands for an experienced law firm, which Thorntons aims to fill.

“We have created a team that can confidently undertake and deliver on this type of work,” Adams explained.

Opportunities for growth

With a strong presence established in the marketplace, Thorntons is now focusing on further developing its team and nurturing its network to drive progress. Adams highlighted the rewarding nature of their work, mentioning projects that contribute to clean energy production and local businesses, such as cafes that the firm has assisted. “It’s an incredibly exciting time for the Highlands,” he stated, emphasizing the diverse legal services the firm offers to help the region thrive.

New appointments and projects

As part of its expansion, Thorntons has appointed Emma MacLaren as its first estate agent in Inverness, marking the firm’s entry into the Highland homes market. Additionally, corporate solicitor Scott Kenyon has joined the team, specializing in corporate law and advising businesses on various legal matters. The firm is optimistic about large projects in the area, such as the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, which they believe will make the region an attractive investment destination.

Furthermore, Thorntons has reported a “significant rise” in immigration requests across the Highlands since the beginning of 2023, indicating a growing need for legal assistance in this area. The firm’s proactive approach and local expertise position it well to meet these demands and support the community effectively.
