The popular pop group 911 captivated audiences at Cooper Park this past Sunday, showcasing their classic hits and sharing their fondness for Scotland. Members Lee Brennan, Jimmy Constable, and Spike Dawbarn expressed their excitement about being back in the country, reminiscing about their time spent in the area, including a sightseeing trip to Lossiemouth.

Memorable moments in Lossiemouth

During their visit, Lee took a stroll along East Beach in Lossiemouth, despite the chilly weather. He described the experience as “freezing but beautiful,” highlighting the picturesque scenery that the area offers. Although he didn’t indulge in the local tradition of enjoying ice cream, he captured numerous photos and videos to remember his visit.

“I didn’t get an ice cream but I managed to get a lot of pictures and videos,” Lee shared, adding that the cold eventually drove him back to the hotel.

Exploring the local area

While Lee enjoyed a brief exploration, Spike reminisced about his past visits to the area, noting that he had done quite a bit of exploring years ago. In contrast, Jimmy arrived directly from the airport and didn’t have the opportunity to explore. “I landed at the airport, went to the hotel, got changed then went straight here,” he explained. Lee also mentioned his surprise at finding familiar establishments like Starbucks and Tesco in the area, which added a sense of comfort during their stay.

Future of the MacMoray festival

The trio was enthusiastic about the prospect of returning to the MacMoray festival next year, despite initial reports suggesting it might be the last. Spike expressed disbelief, stating, “There’s no way. There’s got to be another next year.” Lee echoed this sentiment, urging festival organizers to bring it back. When asked if they would perform again, Jimmy confidently stated, “We’d be here next year for this festival. They better sort themselves out. We need the festival again next year.” Their enthusiasm was met with excitement from fans, especially after festival organizer Andy MacDonald announced that MacMoray would continue.

As 911 left the stage, their connection with the audience and the local community was evident. The band’s desire to return to Scotland and perform at MacMoray again speaks volumes about the impact of live music and the joy it brings to both artists and fans alike.
