Injury update on Sivert Heltne Nilsen

Aberdeen FC’s manager, Jimmy Thelin, has confirmed that midfielder Sivert Heltne Nilsen will not return to the pitch for the remainder of the season due to an eye injury. The 33-year-old Norwegian player has been sidelined for two months after sustaining the injury during a training session, significantly impacting the team’s performance as they approach crucial matches.

Impact on the team and upcoming matches

Heltne Nilsen, who joined Aberdeen from SK Brann last summer, has been a pivotal figure in the squad this season. His absence will be felt especially during the final push for third place in the league and the upcoming Scottish Cup final against Celtic at Hampden on May 24.

Thelin expressed his disappointment but remains hopeful for Heltne Nilsen’s recovery in time for pre-season training after the summer break.

Manager’s comments on player recovery

Thelin stated, “Sivert is going to be ruled out for the rest of the season, and then let’s see for how long a time. I think it’s going quite well, but it’s just the timeline. It’s too short, so it’s not going to be ready for the last games – not even the final.” He emphasized the emotional toll injuries take on players, noting their dedication to training and the anticipation of game days. Thelin also highlighted the importance of supporting each other during such setbacks.

Return to training and rehabilitation updates

After receiving permission to return to Norway for recovery, Heltne Nilsen is now back in Aberdeen. Thelin mentioned, “He arrived back on Monday. He wants to train, but he can’t right now.” Meanwhile, the team is also monitoring the rehabilitation of centre-back Kristers Tobers, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury that has kept him out for two months. Thelin confirmed that Tobers is back in full training but will miss the upcoming match against St Mirren.

Looking ahead

As the season nears its conclusion, Aberdeen faces critical matches that will determine their standing in the league and their chances in the cup. The absence of key players like Heltne Nilsen and Tobers poses challenges, but Thelin remains optimistic about the team’s resilience and ability to adapt. With the right support and training, the Dons aim to finish the season strong, despite the hurdles presented by injuries.
