People should be aware of four lesser-known Covid symptoms associated with the virus which don't appear on the NHS website.

The NHS only lists a high temperature, a persistent cough and a loss of taste or smell as official symptoms of Covid on their website but people should be aware of four lesser-known Covid symptoms also associated with the virus.

Four mild Covid symptoms

Stomach ache

Some Covid patients have suffered stomach aches before the official symptoms arise. The American Journal of Gastroenterology suggest that Covid may bring about digestive problems such as diarrhoea.

In a study of 204 patients in China, they found that 48.5% of them had stomach problems such as vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhoea when they were first hospitalised.

Dr Diana Gall said : “Digestion problems and changes in bowel habits – particularly looser stools and making more frequent trips to the toilet – are sometimes the first signs that you’re coming down with something, not just with this coronavirus. However, diarrhoea has been reported as an early symptom in patients who have later tested positive for Covid-19.”

Eye infections

Health officials believe that 1% to 3% of Covid patients will also get conjunctivitis, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology said: “If you see someone with pink eye, don’t panic. It doesn’t mean that person is infected with coronavirus. But health officials believe viral pink eye, or conjunctivitis, develops in about 1% to 3% of people with coronavirus. The virus can spread by touching fluid from an infected person’s eyes, or from objects that carry the fluid.”

Brain fog

‘Brain fog’ is a symptom of ‘long Covid’ although some patients do also experience it before being diagnosed with Covid. Dr Hilary Jones explained that those who develop this will have a “crippling” inability to think clearly.

Fatigue

The third most common symptom of Covid is fatigue according to a WHO study. 38.1% of patients reported fatigue as a symptom in the study group consisting of 55,924 cases.

Researchers have previously said that fatigue is one of the hidden signs of Covid, as well as headaches.
