Oscars 2011: Italian film "La prima cosa bella" misses out

After the Italian film “Io sono l’Amore” missed out on a Golden Globe, another hard blow has been dealt to Italian cinema with “La prima cosa bella” being passed over for 2011 Oscar nomination of the best foreign film.
While the Golden Globe award was a long shot, the exclusion from the short list of foreign films at the Oscars for La prima cosa has been hard to swallow.

The missing nomination for the short list is the third time in as many years that an Italian film has missed out on Oscar nomination.
The first, recently, was the clamorous exclusion of Gomorrah, which was followed by Baaria last year.

While “La prima cosa bella” has had a limited launch program on the American market, “I am love” or “Io sono l’amore”, had plenty of success among the American public.
The foreign films still in the running for the 2011 Oscar are:Algeria, “Hors la Loi” (“Outside the Law”), Rachid Bouchareb, director;Canada, “Incendies,” Denis Villeneuve, director;Denmark, “In a Better World,” Susanne Bier, director;Greece, “Dogtooth,” Yorgos Lanthimos, director;Japan, “Confessions,” Tetsuya Nakashima, director;Mexico, “Biutiful,” Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, director;South Africa, “Life, above All,” Oliver Schmitz, director;Spain, “Tambien la Lluvia” (“Even the Rain”), Iciar Bollain, director;Sweden, “Simple Simon,” Andreas Ohman, director.
