The Pirelli Calendar is a cult icon these days – a symbol of slightly perverse but imaginative beauty and a must-have object for collectors.
The 2011 Pirelli Calendar will be shot by Karl Lagerfel and it will be interesting to see what the world of high fashion can bring to the traditionally more soft-porn calendar.
In the meantime, the Pirelli Calendar will become a film documentary, examining the history and backstage moments of the calendar and paying homage to some of the top models the world has seen including Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Eva Herzigova and Gisele Bundchen.
The documentary will also include some of the Pirelli Calendar’s most famous photographers, with names like Terry Richardson, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier and Annie Leibovits appearing.

The calendar was the creation of Derek Forsyth in 1963 and the first was a flop, but undeterred Forsyth continued his project, giving us what is now perhaps the world’s most famous calendar.
