Rome hosts exhibition The Painting of An Empire

Thanks to this exhibition called : The Painting Of An Empire and entirely devoted to the art of painting in the Roman Empire, visitors will have the unique opportunity to get a closer look at the astonishing frescoes and friezes with which Roman nobles decorated their luxurious villas.

On display at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome, there are more than 100 pieces which unmistakably show the high level reached by Roman artists between 2nd century BC and 4th century AD; artists from whom such important Italian painters as Giotto and Michelangelo drew their inspiration.

Many of these works are on loan from the British Museum, the Louvre, the Vatican and the Capitoline museums (just to mention a few!).
The exhibition, partly curated by Italian theatre director Luca Ronconi, will close on 17 January.
Opening hours: 10:00 to 20:00 from Sunday to Saturday; extended opening hours over the weekend (22.
