Italian sex appeal: driving the Fiat 500C

When the new Fiat 500 was first released, it was nominated the hottest revival in cars since the VW Beetle – even overtaking it’s more famous retro competitor, the Mini.
We recently had the chance to drive the Fiat 500C cabrio version and not only is it cute, it’s not a bad drive.

I always maintained that the Fiat 500 was about style and if you want to make a “bella figura” the 500C is even better than its hard-top counterpart.
True that high-speed highway driving creates a lot of wind in the back if you have the roof down, it does feel a bit tinny and the pedals are very loose.

But it can still do 180 km/hr (we tried) without too many problems and the interior is stylish but very practical.
The sport function gives you more steering feel and better grip, and the boot room and rear passenger space is fine if you don’t have sedan-like ambitions.
But apart from all that, the Fiat 500C is very sexy.
It turns heads anywhere and whatever your opinion of Lapo Elkann, the Fiat 500 revival has been the biggest thing for this company since….

the original.
The hardtop revival was launched back in 2008 and since then it has enjoyed top sales results and been nominated the sexiest car in the world.
In a land of SUVs and big sedans, it will also be Fiat’s flagship model for its re-entry to the US market.
Looking at our Fiat 500C gallery, it’s not hard to see why.
