Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the 94-year-old monarch sent Joe Biden, 78, a private letter ahead of Wednesday's inauguration.

Queen Elizabeth reached out to Joe Biden before his Inauguration Day on Wednesday when he became 46th President of the United States.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the 94-year-old monarch sent Joe Biden, 78, a private letter ahead of Wednesday’s inauguration, as reported by The Sunday Times royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah.

Harper’s Bazaar reported the same story that the Queen sent a message to Biden before he was sworn in as President, citing a spokesperson for the palace.

Queen Elizabeth was joined by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in wishing Joe Biden well as the PM issued a public statement on Wednesday congratulating Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, tweeting:

“Congratulations to @JoeBiden on being sworn in as President of the United States and to @KamalaHarris on her historic inauguration. America’s leadership is vital on the issues that matter to us all, from climate change to COVID, and I look forward to working with President Biden.”

Joe Biden expressed hope and certainty in democracy during his inauguration address on Wednesday, saying:

“America has been tested anew and America has risen to the challenge.

Today we celebrate the triumph not of a candidate but of a case: a case of democracy. The will of the people has been heard and the will of the people has been heeded.”

During Queen Elizabeth’s historic 68-year reign, 14 American presidents have taken office. Since her accession to the throne in 1952, the Queen has met with 12 serving U.S. presidents. The Queen did not meet President Lyndon B. Johnson however she did meet President Harry S. Truman while she was still a princess.
