David James, with a long history of violent offenses, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for recent assaults in Neath and Swansea.

David James, a 36-year-old resident of Llys Hafan, Lamberts Road, Swansea, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for a series of violent assaults. His actions, spanning over the last 20 years, have left a trail of victims and have recently culminated in severe legal consequences.
The most recent incidents, which led to his sentencing, occurred in Neath and Swansea, demonstrating a pattern of violent behavior that has repeatedly brought him to the attention of the authorities.
The Allan Leonard Lewis VC Pub Assault
On February 11, 2026, James was drinking at the Allan Leonard Lewis VC pub in Neath town centre when he became involved in a confrontation.
The incident began when James, who had been drinking since the previous day, approached a man who was chatting with his friend. In a sudden outburst, James headbutted the man and delivered six punches to his face, including three left-handed uppercuts.
The victim fell to the ground, where James repeatedly stamped on his head. Despite interventions from pub staff and customers, James finished his drink and ran off. The victim suffered concussion, a black eye, facial swelling, a cut lip, and a chipped tooth.
The Neath Railway Station and The Arch Nightclub Assaults
James’ violent behavior continued on December 22 last year when he punched a police officer outside Neath railway station. The officer was part of a group trying to break up a physical altercation. James remained silent during his arrest and subsequent interview.
In the early hours of April 19 this year, James assaulted a man outside The Arch nightclub in Commercial Street, Neath. The victim, a soldier in the British Army, was punched unconscious and hit the back of his head on the ground. James walked away laughing, leaving the victim unconscious for two or three minutes. The victim was later diagnosed with concussion and a fractured jaw. James was found in possession of a wrap of cocaine during his arrest.
The Legal Consequences
David James pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), assault of an emergency worker, and possession of cocaine. He has a lengthy criminal record, including previous convictions for unlawful wounding, assault by beating, and assaulting a police officer. In, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison suspended for two years for ABH. The recent assaults were committed in breach of this suspended sentence.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Geraint Walters highlighted James’ history of violent offending and warned that future courts may consider him a dangerous offender. The judge activated 12 months of the previously imposed suspended sentence to run consecutively, resulting in an James was also made subject to restraining orders banning him from contacting or approaching his victims for the next five years.
