Essex nurse Rajendra Pudasaini shared the heartbreaking news that his relatives were swept away by the floods. They’re gone. The speed the water came, they couldn’t be saved he said. Barun Lamichhane, a Nepalese man living in Aberdeen, lost his brother, uncle, and cousin in the disaster, while his parents and grandmother managed to escape by crawling into the hillside.

The search for survivors continues amidst warnings of potential secondary floods near the Bhote Koshi river. The Foreign Office in the UK is working closely with Nepalese authorities and has urged people to follow local guidance and remain alert. The Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal for $31 million to support the response efforts. The glacial collapse that caused the flash floods occurred near the border at 08:37 local time on Wednesday, according to the US Geological Survey. Several tour companies have reported missing British nationals who were on trips in the region. Alpine Eco Trek has not been able to establish contact with 12 Britons who were booked on a tour to Mount Kailash. The Trekkers’ Society reported nine UK nationals missing after they crossed the Nepal-Tibet border. Mount Kailash, a peak in the Himalayas, is considered the spiritual home of the Hindu god Shiva and a site of sacred pilgrimage.
