The successful candidates will act as the operational hub between production teams and the archive, controlling access to the BBC Sport Media Collection across live systems and the Digital Media Production Archive.
Responsibilities include handling content requests, prioritising urgent workflows to meet broadcast deadlines and maintaining the integrity of media assets and metadata.
Key responsibilities
In a fast-paced broadcast setting you will be expected to respond rapidly to production and research queries, prioritise tasks effectively, and support output across television, radio, live streaming, digital short form and sports news. You will curate and maintain digital material in line with BBC standards, applying retention and deletion policies accurately. Working within a specialist team of around twenty staff, you will promote best practice for digital media management and build strong relationships with users of live production systems and legacy collections.
Operational activity and policy
Daily duties include ingesting and managing media in live production systems, preparing assets for reuse and ensuring metadata quality. You will consider sports rights constraints when advising on access and distribution, and you will apply policy to decide what is retained in the archive and what is deleted. The role requires careful coordination with production teams during major events and technical transitions, emphasising reliability under pressure and attention to compliance.
Skills, experience and technical knowledge
Essential experience includes working within a digital archive or media environment and a clear understanding of sport and BBC Sport output, including how different content types and genres affect production workflows. Candidates should be comfortable handling production requests to tight broadcast deadlines and have practical familiarity with databases and information management software such as MAM and PAM systems. Awareness of technical standards like media formats, aspect ratios and audio specifications is also required.
Preferred tools and expertise
It is advantageous to have worked with systems such as EVS IPDirector, Dira, Dalet Galaxy and Adobe Premiere, and to understand how sports rights influence access and reuse. Experience in providing access to file-based media, interpreting metadata structures and prioritising workloads within broadcast or archive teams will strengthen an application. If you bring transferable strengths alongside the listed skills, you are encouraged to apply.
