The 2026 King’s Birthday Honours have shone a spotlight on the world of football, recognizing both high-profile athletes and dedicated individuals working behind the scenes. This year’s list includes members of England’s victorious women’s and men’s under-21 teams, as well as influential figures in grassroots football and disability sports.

From the triumphs on the pitch to the tireless efforts off it, these honours highlight the diverse ways individuals contribute to the beautiful game. The recipients span different levels of the sport, from elite competition to community initiatives, reflecting the broad impact of football on society.

The Lionesses and Young Lions Honored

The England women’s national team, known as the Lionessesmade history by retaining their UEFA Women’s EURO title in 2026. Six key players from that championship-winning squad have been awarded MBEs (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for their services to football.

Hannah Hampton, Chloe Kelly, Michelle Agyemang, Lauren James, Alessia Russo, and Jess Carter were instrumental in the team’s victory over world champions Spain in the final.

In addition to the players, Lee Carsleythe head coach of England’s men’s under-21 team, has also received an MBE. Under his leadership, the Young Lions secured back-to-back UEFA EURO U21 titles in 2026 and 2026. Carsley’s contributions extend beyond coaching, as he has also served as the men’s senior interim head coach and led the team to promotion in the UEFA Nations League.

Similarly, Eleanor Guedalla received a BEM for her services to football for women and marginalized communities, highlighting the importance of diversity and representation in the game.

Lifetime Contributions and Administrative Excellence

The honours extend beyond the pitch to recognize lifetime contributions and administrative excellence. David Deinformer co-owner and vice-chairman of Arsenal and a key figure in the founding of the Premier League, was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to football and charity. His work with the Twinning Project has had a lasting impact on the sport and the community.

Lou Macaria former Scotland international and manager, received an MBE for his services to football and to homeless people. His career spanned playing for Manchester United and other clubs, as well as managing teams, showcasing his deep commitment to the sport. Anthony Whelana Manchester United youth coach, was also honored with an MBE, reflecting the importance of nurturing young talent.

The Mid Staffordshire Junior Football League president, Michael Barnardreceived a BEM for his services to grassroots football, underscoring the critical role of local leagues in developing the next generation of players. Scott Rogers of the England Amputee Football Association was awarded a BEM for his services to disability sport, highlighting the growing recognition of adaptive sports.

The FA Chair, Debbie Hewitt MBEexpressed her congratulations to all the recipients, emphasizing their outstanding contributions both on and off the pitch. She noted that these honours recognize not only their achievements but also their dedication to inspiring future generations of footballers.
