Ollie the cat's incredible journey ends with a joyful reunion in Collieston.

A remarkable story of resilience and community spirit unfolded recently in Aberdeenshire, where a cat named Ollie was reunited with his owners after being missing for nearly two weeks. The four-year-old tomcat disappeared from his home in Cruden Bay on January 18, leaving his owners, Peter and Pamela Campbell, distraught and fearing the worst.
The search for Ollie
For twelve long days, the Campbells searched tirelessly for their beloved pet. As the days passed, their hope began to wane. The weather during this period was harsh, with cold temperatures and rain, further intensifying their worries about Ollie’s safety.
Peter expressed the emotional toll the search took on them, stating, “By mid-week, we were thinking the worst had happened.” Pamela, who adored Ollie, was particularly affected by his absence, feeling a deep sense of loss.
A surprising discovery
Just when the Campbells were about to give up hope, a call from their veterinarian brought unexpected joy. Ollie had been found seven miles away in the village of Collieston. He had shown up at the home of Emmajane Kingaby, a creative development coordinator at Robert Gordon University, who was working from home when she discovered him at her door, soaked from the rain. Emmajane took Ollie in and, with the help of a local resident and a microchip scanner, was able to identify him and contact his owners.
The emotional reunion
The reunion between Ollie and his family was nothing short of emotional. When Pamela arrived to pick up her furry friend, she expressed her gratitude to Emmajane with flowers and treats for her own cat, Midget. Emmajane reflected on the joy of seeing the family reunited, stating, “I can’t imagine the pain they’ve suffered in the last ten days searching for Ollie.” The community’s involvement in bringing Ollie back home highlighted the power of collective effort and compassion.
Peter was equally amazed by Ollie’s journey, pondering how he could have traveled such a distance. “To think he’s walked all the way to Collieston is amazing,” he remarked. The story of Ollie serves as a reminder of the strong bond between pets and their owners, as well as the kindness of strangers who can make a significant difference in times of distress.
