Early Life and Education

David Wade’s story is one of resilience and determination. Growing up in a family that valued mechanical skills, he developed a passion for engineering early on. His childhood was filled with fixing motorbikes and tinkering with engines, which laid the groundwork for his future career.

Despite struggling in school and facing discouragement from teachers, David remained focused on his goal of building a successful business.

Apprenticeship and Career Beginnings

At 17, David embarked on a four-year mechanical engineering apprenticeship with JGC Engineering, where he honed his skills at Dounreay.

This experience was pivotal; it not only solidified his understanding of physics and mathematics but also ignited his passion for project management. After completing his apprenticeship, he joined Global Resources, where he traveled globally and gained valuable experience in offshore projects.

Founding Enerpro Group

In 2015, David took a leap of faith and co-founded Enerpro Group with his uncle, Hugh Macleod. Starting with limited resources, he invested everything he had into the business, driven by a desire to create a company that treated its employees with respect and integrity. Under his leadership, Enerpro has grown significantly, achieving a turnover of £10 million and employing around 190 contractors and eight staff members.

Challenges and Industry Insights

As the managing director, David has faced numerous challenges, including the need to attract young talent to the energy sector. He actively engages in initiatives to promote energy awareness and address workforce shortages. His commitment to the industry is evident in his role as vice chairman of the IADC North Sea Chapter’s Associate Members, where he advocates for a clear energy strategy from the government.

Looking Ahead

David’s vision for Enerpro includes expanding its reach while maintaining its headquarters in Aberdeen. He recognizes the importance of adapting to industry changes and is exploring opportunities to open offices abroad to mitigate risks. Despite the challenges, David remains proud of his achievements and is dedicated to fostering a positive work environment for his team.
