The event took place at the Glasgow Film Festival, where the film titled Make It To Munich was unveiled, capturing the essence of Ethan’s fight against the odds following a devastating accident.

The accident that changed everything

Ethan’s life took a dramatic turn in September 2023 when he was struck by a car traveling at 60mph while in New York. The accident left him with severe injuries, including two brain injuries, a lacerated lung, and multiple fractures, including his pelvis, left hand, skull, shoulder, and right leg.

In addition to these physical injuries, Ethan faced significant challenges, including facial lacerations, nerve damage, and ligament damage to his right knee. The impact of the accident was profound, rendering him unable to swallow and necessitating an extended hospital stay before he could return home to Scotland.

A journey of recovery and hope

Despite the harrowing experience, Ethan’s spirit remained unbroken. Make It To Munich follows his incredible journey as he undertakes a 1200km cycling challenge to Germany, coinciding with Scotland’s debut at Euro 2024. Accompanied by his surgeon, Professor Gordon Mackay, Tartan Army supporter Stephen Collier, and film director Martyn Robertson, Ethan’s story is one of hope and perseverance. The documentary not only highlights his physical recovery but also showcases the emotional and psychological aspects of overcoming such a life-altering event.

Life after the accident

While Ethan has decided against returning to competitive football, he has found a new purpose in coaching at Longside FC, one of his former clubs. His passion for sports remains strong, as he is currently studying Sports Coaching at college and working as a lifeguard at Sport Aberdeen. Ethan’s journey serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that even in the face of adversity, one can find a way to rebuild and thrive.
