Italian Christmas traditions: the salt nativity scene at Cervia and Milano Marittima

The areas of Cervia and especially Milano Marittima are famous in Italy for their VIP visitors in summer, the Italian beach discos, paparazzi and Italian sports celebrities.
What is less well known is that the city during winter has a wonderful winter sea ambience, for who wants to be by the coast, but enjoy the peace and tranquillity rather the frenetic beach culture of the Italian summer.

For Christmas in Italy, rather than going to the big cities of Milan and Rome, you could enjoy something totally different in Romagna.
Milano Marittima has much to offer in this period, including Christmas sculptures by Marco Lodola (arriving from the Sanremo Festival they’re on display here), or the traditional Christmas markets with local arts and crafts, or enjoy some ice skating in Italy.

Other very Italian Christmas traditions that you can enjoy are visiting the main nativity scene made from the region’s famous salt production (for more information go to events), which was created in 1992 by an old salt maker.
The hand made nativity figures are ten to 40cm high and include all the traditional figures, but in place of the shepherds are the salt makers of Milano Marittima.
