Sicilian holidays in an environmental resort

This is a great idea, if only they could get it off the ground.
In the south of Sicily, at S.
Maria del Focallo, an entirely ecological tourist resort has been inaugurated.
Called Villaggio Marispica, it’s the fruit of collaboration between the group i GrandiViaggi, and solar power development company Isofotόn.

The “green” apple of the resort’s eye is the 50 kW solar cell plant.
Sicily certain doesn’t lack sun, but what the resort is lacking at the moment is an Enel connection to make it work.
Marispica was inaugurated last June but no tourist has been able to visit so far.

Administration has complained about the lack of collaboration from Enel, Italian electricity provider, to assemble the generators required to measure the energy produced by the plant.
We’re not talking small numbers as the electricity provided could save up to 54,100 kg of CO2 emissions a year – in the 25-year life cycle of the plant that amounts to 1,300 tonnes.
Isofotόn has explained that the plant is made from mono-crystal modules constructed in a pyramid form that are highly efficient.

They are mounted on a roof on one of the service blocks at the back of the resort, and the whole structure creates a kind of photovoltaic pergola.
